HOUSING ASSISTANT POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Housing Manager, the Housing Assistant plays a crucial role in assessing the initial and ongoing eligibility of applicants and participants within the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Programs. This position involves executing the Authority's Housing Choice Voucher program in compliance with HUD, federal, local, and other relevant regulations, policies, and procedures. The Housing Assistant is tasked with a diverse range of technical and administrative duties, ensuring adherence to established protocols. This role also provides guidance and support to applicants, participants, and the general public regarding the Authority's policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of the Housing Assistant include, but are not limited to:
- Eligibility Assessment: Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and the public from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Client Interviews: Conduct interviews with applicants for housing assistance, aiding them in completing necessary applications, certifications, and declarations.
- Information Gathering: Collect and evaluate information related to income, financial resources, and obligations from applicants and participants.
- Documentation Review: Assess recertification, interim, transfer, and reasonable accommodation information for completeness and accuracy.
- Verification Processes: Ensure appropriate verification methods are utilized for each re-examination in line with HUD and Authority policies.
- Client Education: Explain client responsibilities and rent calculations to all prospective and current clients, preparing necessary notices of rent adjustments.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate client records and perform periodic reviews to determine ongoing eligibility.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to Authority and regulatory standards regarding the ethical use and safeguarding of materials and resources.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Manager and/or Director to address client issues of non-compliance, ensuring clients have opportunities to rectify these issues.
- Additional Duties: Assist in training new staff and perform other related tasks as assigned, ensuring coverage during peak periods or absences.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage in related duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the Housing Authority.
