Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Service Worker I to join our team at Baltimore City Public School System. As a key member of our dining services team, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and ensuring the highest quality food preparation and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Preparation and Service
    • Assemble and prepare food items such as salads, sandwiches, and box lunches.
    • Apply heat to food as necessary and chill foods to maintain quality.
    • Mix ingredients according to simple instructions.
    • Assemble trays for special diets.
  • Customer Service
    • Distribute meals and pour beverages in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Handle cash transactions and make change as needed.
    • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Housekeeping and Maintenance
    • Maintain a clean and orderly work area by cleaning tables, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning equipment and appliances.
    • Dispose of garbage and recyclables.
  • Physical Demands
    • Lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Carry items up to 150 feet.
    • Grasp slippery, heavy, or moving objects.
    • Walk and stand for extended periods.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Previous experience in food service or a related field preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
    • Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations.
    • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires working in a fast-paced environment with moderate physical exertion. The successful candidate will be able to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in a team environment.
