Position Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of a certified educator, the paraprofessional plays a crucial role in collaborating with students in the special education setting to achieve their educational objectives.

This individual will also engage in various non-instructional tasks and support skill reinforcement, fostering meaningful adult-student interactions.


Schedule:
7 hours/day, 5 days/week, 38 weeks/year - Full-time with benefits

Essential Job Functions:

Assist and guide students in their educational and social development, working with them individually and in small groups to reinforce vital learning skills.

Support professional staff in administering classroom activities, assessments, and tests.

Contribute to classroom preparations and adapt instructional materials according to individual student needs, including the creation, duplication, and distribution of educational resources.

Willingness to complete Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and maintain certification as per district requirements.

Assist in utilizing data tracking systems to document student learning, progress, and performance in alignment with each student's Individual Education Program (IEP), Personal Care Services (PCS), and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP).

Help manage classroom behavior to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe and orderly environment for all students.

Support students in non-instructional settings, such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, study hall, and other areas.

Assist with students' medical, grooming, and self-care needs as required, including eating, tooth brushing, toileting, and diapering according to individualized Personal Care Services (PCS).

Accompany students on field trips to provide supervision. Assist teachers with parent communication to encourage effective parental involvement in student education. Support students with disabilities in all aspects of classroom instruction to enhance inclusion and achievement of IEP goals.

Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for the student evaluation team as necessary.

Assist students with physical or mental disabilities in daily living activities to enhance their participation in school, social, and learning experiences.

Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations governing assistance for students, including those with disabilities or special needs.

Collaborate effectively with teachers and related service providers to meet the needs of students in the MoCI program.


Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance Additional Duties:

Occasional travel between schools and central offices may be necessary for certain roles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to follow instructions provided in written or oral form. Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations to assist students as needed. Familiarity with personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students, employees, and others. Ability to build supportive and compassionate relationships with students with special needs. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others encountered in the course of work. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisors as required. Effective writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a diverse economic, cultural, and racial environment.

Qualifications:

Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher learning (equivalent to 60 credits) OR attainment of an associate's degree (or higher) OR successful completion of an approved formal state academic assessment.

Prior experience working with MoCI, ASD, or El students is preferred. Knowledge and training in effective classroom management techniques, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical interventions, such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), may be required.

Willingness to engage in professional development as identified by the principal, special education department, or school district.

The noise level in the work environment is typically loud to moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
