Position Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of a certified educator, the paraprofessional plays a vital role in collaborating with the special education team to assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in achieving their educational objectives. This position also involves engaging in non-instructional tasks and fostering meaningful adult-student interactions.

Schedule: 7 hours/day, 5 days/week, 38 weeks/year

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and guide students individually or in small groups to enhance their educational and social skills.
  • Assist educators in implementing classroom assignments and evaluations.
  • Contribute to classroom preparation and adapt instructional materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • Complete district-provided Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and maintain certification as required.
  • Utilize data tracking systems to document student progress in alignment with their Individual Education Program (IEP) and other support plans.
  • Facilitate classroom management to promote a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Supervise students in non-instructional settings, including lunch, bus duty, and playground activities.
  • Assist with students' personal care needs, including hygiene and self-care tasks.
  • Accompany students on field trips to provide supervision and support.
  • Engage with parents as directed by the teacher to encourage their involvement in the educational process.
  • Support students with disabilities in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion and achievement of IEP goals.
  • Be open to training and effectively using assistive devices as necessary.
  • Participate in the IEP process and provide input for student evaluations as needed.
  • Assist students with physical or mental disabilities in daily living activities to enhance their participation in school and social activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures when assisting students with special needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers and related service providers to address the needs of students in the ASD program.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Additional Duties:
  • Perform any other related responsibilities as assigned.
Equipment: Utilize standard office equipment, including personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements: Travel between schools or central offices may be necessary for certain roles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic to assist students as needed.
  • Competence in using personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
  • Capability to build supportive relationships with students with special needs.
  • Skill in establishing cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher learning (equivalent to 60 credits) OR an associate's degree (or higher) OR passing an approved formal state academic assessment.
  • Experience working with students with Autism.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques, including verbal de-escalation skills and physical interventions, may be required.
  • Willingness to engage in professional development as identified by school leadership.
