Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Nurse II to join our team at Alameda Health System. As a Registered Nurse II, you will provide exceptional patient care and work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accompany, assist, and represent the needs of patients to other providers.
  • Accurately provide care with respect to medication administration, skin and wound care, ADL's and other essential patient care related activities.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and make modifications in the nursing care plan; prepare required records and reports.
  • Gather and assess information about patients to meet nursing needs; assist and consult with physician in the performance of procedures and diagnostic tests; contract physicians and/or other departments to obtain or provide patient information.
  • May provide oversight to staff who monitor telemetry systems; be the primary nurse of changes in underlying rhythms and of any life-threatening arrhythmias that may develop; interpret and post telemetry strips at the hours specified; admit and discharge patients with telemetry units as appropriate.
  • Organize, supervise, make adjustments and accept responsibility for the quality of care provided patients by co-workers for a given work period; at the level II assume responsibility as a charge nurse when assigned.
  • Participate in promoting a healthful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families; set up and control the environment essential for infection control.
  • Participate in the implementation of patient care standards, infection control standards and quality assurance criteria; assist with conducting studies; participate in unit and other meetings.
  • Provide and evaluate patient care established standards and criteria in conformity with the nursing care plan. Will adhere to the No Pass Zone.
  • Monitor patients for significant and critical changes and initiate procedures as required; document care given according to set standards and at required intervals.
  • Interpret and explain procedures, regimens, and services to patients and families; teach patients and family members healthcare and disease prevention techniques.
  • Prepare patients and/or area for procedures and operations; assist physicians; use instruments and equipment related to the area of assignment.
  • Utilize evidenced-based best practice by hourly rounding on all assigned patients. Between the hours of 2200 and 0700 rounding will be every two hours.
  • Shift report will be done at the bedside with the patient involved to the best of their ability.
  • AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation, and thank you) will be used in patient and family interactions when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Minimum six months experience as a Registered Nurse I with AHS or the equivalent of one year full-time recent experience at a comparable level in a minimum 100-bed hospital.
  • Required experience in ED or CCU - six months full-time experience; OR or PACU - one year full-time experience.
  • Required BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Required ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - issued by the American Heart Association for nurses in the Emergency Department, OR, PACU, SSU, CCU or Telemetry.
  • Required CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention training for Emergency Department.
  • Required PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification - issued by the AHA American Heart Association for nurses in the Emergency Department.
  • Preferred Licenses/Certification: CCRN – For Critical Care Registered.
  • Preferred Certification: CEN - Certified Emergency Nurse – For Emergency Department Nurse
