Lecturer Position in Computer and Information Science
The Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) within the College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is seeking applications for a Lecturer position focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, software development, computer game design, or a related discipline in computer science. This is a non-tenure-track role with a primary emphasis on undergraduate and graduate instruction, online teaching, student advising, and contributing to university initiatives.
UMass Dartmouth is situated in a picturesque coastal community, providing a premier education to over 9,300 students annually across more than 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs offered by various colleges, including Engineering, Nursing, Business, Arts and Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, Law, and Marine Science and Technology.

The College of Engineering comprises six departments: Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. We provide a comprehensive educational experience with 8 undergraduate programs, 8 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 8 accelerated BS-MS pathways, serving over 1,500 students. Our mission is to equip graduates to tackle 21st-century technological challenges and enhance societal well-being through innovation and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective teaching skills and a strong dedication to student achievement. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and data science.
- Utilizing inclusive and evidence-based teaching methodologies to support a diverse student body.
- Advising on senior capstone projects.
- Collaborating with faculty to improve curriculum offerings.
- Providing academic guidance and support.
- Engaging in university service activities.
- Participating in initiatives promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a master's degree in computer science or a closely related field at the time of employment, have prior college-level teaching experience, exhibit excellent communication abilities, and demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and inclusivity. Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong candidates will hold a PhD in computer science or a closely related field, have a proven track record of successful college-level teaching, experience in both classroom and online instruction, and research experience in computer science. We particularly encourage applications from individuals historically underrepresented in STEM fields, including veterans and persons with disabilities. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to enhancing the recruitment and retention of women and historically minoritized groups in engineering.

SALARY: $80,000 - $105,000 based on experience
