We are in search of an electrical engineer specializing in discrete components to enhance our Strategic Microelectronics team at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering support for discrete components to the technology team, including the preparation of technical documentation.
  • Advise military programs and design teams on component selection.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to discrete components and propose effective solutions.
  • Comprehend electrical testing methodologies, radiation effects, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Collaborate with program offices, prime contractors, designers, parts manufacturers, testing laboratories, and other governmental bodies.
  • Develop and evaluate test plan documentation.
  • Offer comprehensive life-cycle support for strategic systems.
  • Engage in Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) audits, participate in Joint Electronic Devices Engineering Council (JEDEC) meetings, and conduct reviews and recommendations on Military Performance Specifications and Test Methods.
  • Willingness to travel 25-50% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Component or Systems Engineering with an emphasis on quality and reliability standards, particularly IEEE parts.
  • Familiarity with or eagerness to learn best design practices for IEEE components.
  • Basic understanding of military industry standards (MIL-STD).
  • Ability to analyze and differentiate between various standards related to component types.
  • Strong communication skills to convey ideas to customers, program offices, colleagues, and contractors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with a capacity to learn advanced functions.
  • Capability to produce technical reports.
  • Basic understanding of electrical testing for IEEE components.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required for a Secret Clearance).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Component Engineer with a focus on quality and reliability standards, particularly for integrated circuits (ICs).
  • Knowledge of best design practices for IEEE components, especially in relation to IC manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of the distinctions between military, industry, commercial, and automotive standards.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formula integration and macros.
  • Solid understanding of electrical testing for IEEE components, with the ability to conduct basic benchtop testing.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
