JOB SUMMARY:

The Graduate Counseling Program Chair will be an integral member of the Graduate Counseling Program team. The primary responsibilities include collaborating with admissions, overseeing graduate licensure, and managing postgraduate functions. This role will involve working closely with the program director on accreditation processes, student evaluations, and program assessments. All faculty members are expected to contribute to field experience activities, including group supervision and field placements, as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program and Course Development:

  • Deliver assigned courses within the program.
  • Assist with tasks related to program administration.
  • Engage in program oversight and contribute to curriculum and program enhancements based on evaluations and student feedback.
  • Ensure that graduate counseling curricula and courses align with industry standards, ethical guidelines, relevant research, and practical applications.
  • Support the CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accreditation process, including self-study applications and site visit preparations.

Leadership:

  • Oversee, mentor, and evaluate part-time Associate Faculty members to ensure effective course delivery and adherence to University standards.
  • Plan, manage, analyze, and support the development and maintenance of graduate counseling initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and policies.
  • Facilitate student Workforce Readiness through preparation, assessment, and training.
  • Provide essential information to supporting offices at Post University, such as Marketing, Admissions, and Financial Aid, for the development and maintenance of Graduate Counseling Programs.
  • Participate in University governance activities.
  • Continuously seek innovative strategies to enhance program quality and curriculum.
  • Ensure regular and accurate assessment of graduate counseling courses and programs.
  • Guarantee compliance with OHE, NECHE, and CACREP standards.

Teaching:

  • Instruct a minimum of six courses each calendar year, with the teaching load subject to variation based on other responsibilities and program needs.
  • Engage in course redevelopment, maintain master syllabi, and update program materials as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must demonstrate a professional counselor identity through active memberships in counseling organizations, maintenance of relevant certifications and licenses, and evidence of ongoing professional development, service, and research in counseling.

To succeed in this role, individuals must be able to perform essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • An earned doctoral degree in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or a related counseling doctoral degree with previous full-time faculty experience in a counselor education program.
  • Must hold a professional counselor license at the highest level or be eligible for licensure.
  • Knowledge and ability to meet CACREP standards and fulfill departmental functions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in technology, including Learning Management Systems.
  • A positive attitude and proven leadership capabilities.
  • A student-centered approach.
  • Commitment to ethical standards in counseling and gatekeeping responsibilities.
  • Creativity and a strong interest in providing an outstanding educational experience for students.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate across departments and externally to innovate and shape the future of the Graduate Counseling Programs.
  • Experience in curriculum and course development, preferably at the graduate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in teaching at the college/university level, with a preference for online teaching experience.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible leadership and innovation experience in teaching or related fields.
  • Experience using assessments to enhance teaching and programs is advantageous.
  • Capability to engage in scholarly and research activities appropriate for a teaching institution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Preferred prior experience in higher education.
