Aviation Compliance Inspectors in this area of expertise (General Aviation Maintenance) utilize their knowledge and skills typically gained as aircraft repair technicians to formulate and enforce regulations and safety standards related to the airworthiness and upkeep of aircraft and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
Candidates must undergo a comprehensive training program, which includes formal education and practical training lasting up to 24 months, regardless of the grade level.

Duties at the FG-9 grade level may encompass, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in enforcement investigations and preparing final reports;
- Participating in accident/incident and complaint investigations;
- Aiding in the re-evaluation of certified airmen or the recertification of an operator or agency.

Duties at the FG-11 grade level may include:
- Ensuring that aviation organizations and airmen adhere to regulatory requirements and reporting deficiencies to the principal inspector or supervisor;
- Assisting in the assessment of air carriers, air agencies, and air operators, providing recommendations to the principal inspector or supervisor;
- Supporting the recertification process of an operator or agency.

Duties at the FG-12 grade level may involve:
- Evaluating mechanics and repair facilities for initial certification and ongoing adequacy;
- Assessing the mechanics training program;
- Inspecting aircraft and related equipment for airworthiness;
- Evaluating the maintenance aspects of programs for air carriers and similar commercial operations.

The evaluations may include assessing the adequacy of maintenance facilities, equipment, and procedures; the competence of personnel; the adequacy of the program or schedule for periodic maintenance and overhauls; and the airworthiness of the aircraft.

Aviation Compliance Inspectors (Airworthiness) may perform a variety of other inspections, investigations, and advisory duties; however, the primary requirement for positions in this specialty is a thorough understanding of maintenance and airworthiness of aircraft.

Travel Requirements:
Inspectors are expected to travel frequently and may occasionally work irregular hours.

Qualifications:
- US Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.
- Front and back copies of your mechanic certificate.
- Veterans' preference documents must be submitted with the application.

Additional Requirements:
- No more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years;
- Proficiency in the English language;
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance;
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Aviation Compliance Inspector positions have job-related medical requirements. When applicable, applicants MUST meet job-related medical requirements which will be assessed and validated during the pre-employment process.

Medical Requirements:
Applicants must be physically capable of performing the duties of the Aviation Compliance Inspector position safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum medical requirements include:
- Good distant vision in each eye and the ability to read printed materials without strain (glasses and contact lenses permitted);
- Ability to hear conversational voices (hearing aids permitted);
- No physical conditions that would pose a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in various aircraft.

Specialized Experience:
To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate in their application that they possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-7, FG-9, FG-11, or FG-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully.

Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.

In addition, applicants MUST meet all of the following:
- Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness;
- Maintenance experience with aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight;
- Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station, air carrier or airline repair facility, military repair facility, or local, state, or Federal government agency;
- Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years;
- FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Evaluation Process:
Applicants will be evaluated based on how well they meet the qualifications outlined above.

Required Documents:
Resume should include the FAR part number that each of your employers operated under and the aircraft for which you have experience. A front and back copy of your FAA Mechanic Certificate is required.

Veterans' Preference:
If claiming veterans' preference, you must submit either a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Member 4 Copy or equivalent), or a document from the armed forces certifying that you are expected to be discharged or released from active duty service under honorable conditions.

If claiming 10-point preference, you must also submit a completed SF-15, Application for 10-Point Veteran's Preference, along with supporting documents outlined on the SF-15.

All documents must be uploaded or faxed to the appropriate Human Resource Management Office, and all documents must be received by the closing date of the announcement.

Failure to submit documentation will result in assessment as a non-veteran.
