Position: IT Systems Support Technician

Location: Rock Springs, WY, US

The J.R. Simplot Company is a multifaceted, privately owned global food and agriculture enterprise based in Boise, Idaho. Role Overview

This position is responsible for the daily delivery and support of IT services at a Simplot manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include managing servers, desktop hardware and software, networking, communication tools, factory technologies, and user assistance, all in accordance with established IT processes and standards. The role involves researching, designing, developing, configuring, integrating, testing, and maintaining both existing and new technology solutions, primarily focusing on infrastructure.

The technician will provide support for infrastructure, applications, and systems, which encompasses services such as voice communication systems, network services maintenance, server and desktop hardware management, application support, factory data center operations, and security administration. This role requires managing service requests and change requests while collaborating with IT personnel and management across Simplot sites as necessary. The technician should be capable of addressing unique situations independently and may seek guidance for complex business challenges. Additionally, the role may involve mentoring junior staff and providing expert advice on process enhancements and policy establishment. The technician will frequently represent the site organization to the global IT team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement user technology, enterprise infrastructure, applications, or services of moderate to advanced complexity, collaborating with business or IT engineering teams on more intricate solutions.
  • Utilize technical expertise to operate, administer, and support infrastructure or software platforms and user groups of moderate to advanced complexity.
  • Collaborate with factory site engineers, management, global IT, or relevant team members as appropriate.
  • Conduct intermediate to advanced analysis of functional or service requirements, leveraging a fundamental understanding of IT business processes or challenges.
  • Independently resolve highly complex technical issues within designated technical areas.
  • Identify potential escalations and proactively notify management.
  • Develop solutions to prevent issues from arising in the area of responsibility, including patch management.
  • Review, implement, and verify changes/solutions of intermediate to advanced complexity and risk.
  • Ensure configuration management of applicable systems is thorough and accurate.
  • Participate as a member of an IT technical team.
  • May serve as an Incident Coordinator or subject matter expert to resolve complex issues.
  • Represent the global IT team to local sites.
  • Exhibit technical leadership and influence beyond the immediate team.
  • Collaborate with other teams on innovative technology solutions, particularly for manufacturing sites, and partner with global IT on creative solutions.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Relevant Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with infrastructure environments (e.g., operating systems, hardware, data centers, security, networks, voice, end-user, and server/web-related applications).
  • Significant experience with business IT applications (e.g., supply chain, customer relationship management, HR, finance).
  • Experience in scripting and/or programming languages.
  • Experience with the implementation, problem analysis, and delivery of infrastructure and business application environments.
  • Foundational knowledge and experience with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) reference model.
  • Experience interfacing with vendors for support and maintenance; escalates as needed.
  • Possess creative abilities, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility, and self-confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and solutions.
  • Strong initiative, integrity, problem-solving, priority-setting, and collaboration skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Exhibits a high level of initiative and integrity.
  • Experience working collaboratively and independently in support of team efforts, suggesting technical solution recommendations.

Other Information

  • Travel may be required to other regional locations to resolve issues or provide on-site support.
  • Work will be performed in onsite locations that may include non-traditional IT environments (manufacturing areas, cold, heat, noisy, dirty, or wet environments).
  • Physical exertion may be required, including the ability to climb stairs multiple times per day, lift 50 lbs., walk over one mile per day without assistance, and stand for extended periods.
  • Adhere to all personal protective equipment requirements and safety practices mandated at Simplot Manufacturing and Warehouse sites.
  • May include working at heights.
  • Steel toe and slip-resistant shoes are required.
