About the Role

The School District of Philadelphia is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Health Professional to join our team. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive health assessments and problem management services to students in public, private, and parochial schools.

In this position, you will plan, organize, and monitor the school health program in individual schools. You will prepare comprehensive health histories, schedule admission and periodic medical examinations for students, and aid the School Clinician during physical examinations. Additionally, you will conduct annual and periodic health screening tests, immunize and/or assist in immunizing students by cooperating with community health agencies.

You will also provide health counseling for students, parents, and school staff aimed at encouraging students to take responsibility for their health care. You will interpret the assessed health status to students, their parents, and school personnel and counsel them in planning action for dealing with health problems that interfere with effective learning. Furthermore, you will refer students and parents to community sources of health care, counseling, and financial assistance, and conduct follow-up procedures to ascertain that students are receiving recommended treatment.

Your expertise in specialized nursing care for students with chronic conditions will be essential in overseeing the activities of ancillary personnel. You will maintain and conduct the school health room, providing care in case of illness or injury, and treat students according to standing medical orders. Moreover, you will advocate for a safe school environment and remain alert to possible health and safety hazards.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, completion of an accredited nursing program, and two years of full-time, paid, professional nursing experience. Additionally, you should have a valid license as a registered professional nurse issued by the State board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and a valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000-$85,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
