Job Summary

This role entails performing general duty nursing work. Providing comprehensive health assessments and problem management services to students in public, private, and parochial schools is essential. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school health program, maintaining comprehensive health records for each student, and providing health counseling to students, parents, and school personnel on issues promoting good health habits in students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and monitor the school health program in individual schools; prepare comprehensive health histories, schedule admission and periodic medical examinations for students, assist the School Clinician during physical examinations, conduct annual and periodic health screening tests, immunize and/or assist in immunizing students by cooperating with community health agencies.
  • Provide health counseling for students, parents, and school staff aimed at encouraging students to take responsibility for their healthcare.
  • Interpret the assessed health status to students, their parents, and school personnel and other appropriately concerned parties and counsel them in planning action for dealing with health problems that interfere with effective learning, refer students and parents to community sources of healthcare, counseling, and financial assistance; conduct follow-up procedures to ascertain that students are receiving recommended treatment.
  • Provide specialized nursing care for students with chronic conditions who may require procedures such as catheterization, tube feeding, and tracheostomy care; oversee the activities of ancillary personnel.
  • Maintain and conduct the school health room; provide care in case of illness or injury; provide treatment in accordance with standing medical orders; advocate a safe school environment, be alert to possible health and safety hazards.
  • Maintain comprehensive health records for each student including findings of screenings and examinations; manage health problems; record health program data for evaluation, research, and continuity of school nursing services.
  • Maintain a viable health communications network; function as a member of an interdisciplinary school team including principals, counselors, and teachers; interact with community organizations, local clinics, and Home and School Associations.
Requirements

To be considered, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Two years of full-time, paid, professional nursing experience.
Salary Information

The estimated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
