POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is crucial for ensuring the cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and security of designated facilities within the school district. The individual will also prepare the premises for educational and community events as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas to create a sanitary and safe environment conducive to learning. Responsibilities include a variety of cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sweeping, disinfecting restrooms, and managing waste disposal.
  2. Manage building security by locking and unlocking facilities and operating alarm systems according to established protocols. Remain vigilant of after-hours activities and report any unauthorized access or emergencies.
  3. Assist in setting up and dismantling equipment and furniture for various events, classrooms, and meetings. Provide support to staff and students in locating necessary equipment and perform emergency cleaning as required.
  4. Conduct thorough cleaning during school breaks and summer to prepare facilities for the upcoming academic year. This includes floor maintenance, carpet cleaning, and window washing.
  5. Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as painting, plastering, and fixing leaks, to ensure the upkeep of the facilities.
  6. Support grounds maintenance by ensuring outdoor areas are clean and safe, including snow removal and lawn care.
  7. Assist in the movement of supplies and materials as directed, including receiving deliveries.
  8. Utilize pressure washing equipment for cleaning locker rooms and kitchen areas as necessary.
  9. Monitor and operate heating and ventilation systems, as well as respond to fire alarms.
  10. Manage inventory and order custodial supplies as needed.
  11. Maintain effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the community to promote safety and positive relations.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  1. Participate in district committees or departmental teams as needed.
  2. Perform other related tasks consistent with the role.
REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports to the District Custodial Supervisor, with direct oversight from the assigned Building Administrator.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • May encounter frequent interruptions and a variety of behaviors from students and staff.
  • Must be adaptable to changing work schedules based on facility usage.
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods and lifting up to sixty (60) pounds.
  • Requires operation of cleaning equipment and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED, or equivalent experience in a custodial role.
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment and techniques is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to manage cleaning supplies and equipment.
Licenses and Requirements:
  • Background checks are mandatory to ensure the safety of minors.
  • Completion of required training upon hiring.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS

This position is classified under the Classified Salary Schedule, with a commitment of eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, throughout the school year. Benefits include retirement plans, paid holidays, and sick leave.
