Job Summary

This position is located at Fort Gregg Adams, VA, and is responsible for supervising children and youth in a group program setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and youth, and possess a strong understanding of child development principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise children and youth in a group program setting, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements.
  • Instruct team members in specific tasks and job techniques, making available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
  • Explain program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives to team members.
  • Use designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with DoD and local installation standards.
  • Ensure assigned area maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  • Complete training requirements using approved service materials, including designated training modules.
Requirements
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Possess and maintain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School Age Credential, Army Youth Practicum, or other nationally recognized Youth Development Credential.
    • Have two years of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus an associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours with a major course of study directly related to the age group to which assigned.
    • Have a bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study directly related to the age group to which assigned.
    • Have 24 months of experience working in a group childcare or youth program, with completion of DoD-approved competency training courses, evidenced by Service-issued documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience assisting with childcare or youth program national accreditation processes.
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary or higher-level child/youth program inspections.
  • Experience working with varying age groups (early childhood, school age, youth).
  • Experience leading or mentoring lower-level childcare/youth program staff.
