Job Summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a highly skilled Senior Stormwater Engineering Manager to lead our Stormwater Engineering team.

About the Role

This is a supervisory level position responsible for managing a team that performs project management and technical services in support of storm drainage improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage multiple project managers who oversee the planning, design, and construction phases of various projects.
  • Assist the Program Manager with workload leveling and meeting the annual Storm Water Capital Improvement Program budget.
  • Provide input and technical expertise to support the development and implementation of policies, processes, and standards of practice for the city.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and training to staff regarding processes, policies, and standards of practice.
  • Monitor and report on project progress of schedules and budgets.
  • Complete review of project fee estimates, scoping documents, planning reports, construction plans, cost estimates, and contract specification submittals for technical competency and consistency.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of staff.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Division, the Department, and the city on stormwater issues.
  • Develop and implement activities to improve the team's processes, work practices, and performance.
  • Communicate and respond to citizens, the public, management, and city officials.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and five (5) years of progressive work experience in planning, design, and construction of storm drainage systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in stormwater engineering principles, design, construction, and permitting practices. 7 – 10 years of progressive work experience in planning, design, and construction of storm drainage systems including management or supervisory experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
