Ophthalmology Clinic Specialist

As an Orthoptist at UCI Health, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders, working closely with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising and training first and second-year ophthalmology residents and fellows
- Developing and conducting training programs for certified orthoptists
- Evaluating patient progress through practical application and tests
- Organizing vision screening programs in community schools
- Providing training to local pediatricians on orthoptic services
- Compiling data on patients in clinical trials
- Preparing manuscripts for publication and presenting research projects
- Assisting the clinic administrator in evaluating technical support staff

Requirements include:
- Understanding of medical terminology, infectious control techniques, and age-related acuity levels
- Ability to collect and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs
- Capacity to evaluate and document patient/family response to care
- Knowledge of medical terminology, infectious control techniques, and age-related acuity levels
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Certification as an Orthoptist by the American Orthoptist Council or an Orthoptic Bachelor's in Medical Science
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese
- Five years of training or experience in orthoptic techniques
- Ability to instruct others in equipment use and procedure performance
