We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior or Assistant Specialist to join our team at the University of California, San Francisco. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biomedical research and experience in cell culture, protein purification, and biochemical assays.
Key Responsibilities- Perform cell biological experiments on eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells using light and electron microscopy
- Routine cell culture of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell lines, including established mouse lines and thermophilic archaean Sulfolobus acidocaldarius
- Purify proteins and assay their biochemical activities, including actin and regulatory factors that control the assembly of actin filaments
- Design and perform biochemical experiments aimed at reconstituting essential cellular processes from purified components
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a field relevant to biomedical research, such as biochemistry, biology, biophysics, or bioengineering
- At least six months of biomedical research lab experience, either during undergraduate education or after graduation
- Assistant Specialist: Master's degree or bachelor's degree with 3 or more years of research experience
- Two years of experience working in a research lab
- Experience with protein purification, especially using an AKTA purification system
- Experience with high-resolution light microscopy, especially fluorescence microscopy
