Job Summary

The Division of Experimental Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a highly skilled Flow Cytometry Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our core, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day sample processing, operating flow cytometers and cell sorters, and providing technical advice to users on experimental methods related to flow cytometry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the lab with day-to-day sample processing, including human blood and tissue samples
  • Operate flow cytometers and cell sorters for core projects and investigator-assisted experiments
  • Provide technical advice to users on experimental methods related to flow cytometry
  • Assist with the management of data and equipment, including new cytometry panel development projects
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices for flow cytometry and provide training for the use of flow cytometers, sorters, and related software
  • Mentor and train junior staff members in the core and serve on Division committees

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience for Junior rank
  • Master's degree or baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience for Assistant rank
  • Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization for Associate rank
  • Terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization for Full rank

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and research experience in cellular immunology and/or molecular biology
  • Bioinformatics knowledge and experience with high-dimensional data processing and analysis
  • Basic genomic assay experience, including RNA preparation, cDNA synthesis, qPCR, and library prep
  • Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing using the 10X platform
  • Assisting with billing and financial tasks using the iLab platform
