Regional Cryogenic Systems Engineer

Position Overview: The Bulk Region Engineer is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of bulk and cryogenic freezer systems. This role is crucial in providing technical assistance to field service technicians and Bulk Specialists for new installations, upgrades, and significant repairs within the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and uphold the safety culture aligned with the Bulk Operations Team's safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead the implementation of new regional or national initiatives related to bulk operations.
  • Manage and execute complex projects involving bulk system design, ensuring successful installation, upgrades, and repairs for Airgas East customers.
  • Collaborate with Field Service Coordinators to track and manage equipment orders and shipments for complex projects.
  • Prepare P&IDs, layout drawings, and design calculations while ensuring regulatory compliance for all major projects.
  • Design considerations will include equipment specifications, P&IDs, layout drawings, and necessary calculations.
  • Ensure that all designs and installations comply with company, industry, safety, and regulatory standards, while meeting customer needs.
  • Address technical inquiries and project status updates from the Bulk Operations & Sales teams and other stakeholders.
  • Guarantee that complex projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Engage in internal collaboration by participating in weekly project pipeline reviews with the Bulk Sales and Operations Teams.
  • Provide leadership in engineering and project activities, fostering a culture of performance, safety, and quality excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to the Airgas Bulk Installation Manual and all relevant standards throughout engineering and project processes.
  • Communicate effectively with customer technical representatives to resolve issues and plan projects.
  • Assist the Bulk Sales team with process design and technical aspects of customer proposals, ensuring clear scope definitions.
  • Convey project objectives to the service team and ensure alignment with project schedules.
  • Review and deliver quality engineering documents for field use and maintain proper records.
  • Evaluate and implement optimal engineering solutions for projects, incorporating cost-saving measures where applicable.
  • Coordinate with project team members to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.
  • Ensure adequate resources and tools are available for project objectives.
  • Establish and monitor project schedules across all engineering disciplines.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the field service team as necessary.
  • Analyze project execution feedback to implement necessary technical adjustments for future projects.
  • Organize and participate in design reviews and ensure action items are addressed.
  • Possess a solid understanding of bulk gas properties and applications.
  • Collaborate with the ALTEC team to assist customers with gas applications and equipment needs.
  • Engage with the national Bulk Support team for guidance on engineering and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the design and installation of bulk cryogenic systems in the region, ensuring compliance with documentation standards.
  • Contribute significantly to the Management of Change (MOC) process by creating and approving necessary system modifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a related role within merchant/packaged gas project coordination or technical support.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of electrical, welding, brazing, cutting, and fabrication technologies is essential.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications and familiarity with SAP is preferred.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to allocate resources effectively and track progress towards goals.
