Position Overview:
As a Preschool Substitute Educator, you will work under the guidance of the Regional Site Director and Site Lead Teacher to provide exceptional Early Childhood Development services. Your role will focus on fostering the educational, social, physical, nutritional, and emotional growth of young children. You will maintain communication with parents regarding their child's progress and keep accurate records of attendance and achievements.

Key Responsibilities:
Your duties will include:

  • Developing and executing daily lesson plans aligned with the curriculum.
  • Supervising children to ensure a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Conducting safety inspections to maintain a secure learning space.
  • Preparing and serving nutritious meals for children.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.
  • Assisting children with hygiene practices, including diapering when necessary.
  • Planning and leading engaging activities that promote learning and development.
  • Assessing children's developmental progress and learning outcomes.
  • Organizing physical education activities to encourage active play.
  • Facilitating communication with non-English speaking parents as needed.
  • Conducting parent-teacher meetings and home visits, when applicable.
  • Keeping detailed records of enrollment, attendance, and educational progress.
  • Coordinating developmental screenings and assessments for infants and toddlers.
  • Managing classroom supplies and resources effectively.
  • Setting up and dismantling classrooms for various activities.
  • Assisting in the recruitment of new students and volunteers.
  • Participating in community outreach and securing donations for the program.
  • Providing diaper changing services as required.
  • Preparing meals for family-style dining.
  • Overseeing Teacher Assistants and offering constructive feedback.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in early childhood education, demonstrating effective communication and organizational skills. Basic computer proficiency is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of 1-3 years in a preschool teaching role or as an aide/assistant, ideally within a Head Start program, is required. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and provide proof of clearance to work with children.

Education:
Applicants must hold either a Child Development Teacher Permit or an associate's degree with at least 12 semester units in early childhood education or child development.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Child Development Teacher Permit or higher
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance
  • Clearance from the Department of Justice to work with children

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to perform essential duties in a preschool environment, which may include lifting up to 45 pounds, maintaining visual and auditory supervision of children, and engaging in physical activities indoors and outdoors.

Special Requirements:

  • Recent T.B. test and health screening prior to employment.
  • Proof of required immunizations.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory, with exemptions considered on a case-by-case basis.
