Electronics Systems Division Leader

Join the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory team as an Electronics Systems Division Leader, responsible for leading the Protection Systems Group and exercising stewardship for SSRL beamline and accelerator personnel protection safety systems, as well as machine protection systems.
Job Summary:The Electronics Systems Division (ESD) within the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) Directorate at SLAC seeks a safety system engineer to lead the Protection Systems Group and exercise responsibility for SSRL beamline and accelerator personnel protection safety systems, as well as machine protection systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the Protection Systems Group activities, including project planning, requirements gathering, design reviews, soft/firmware version control, test procedures, and management reports.
- Collaborate with other related SLAC safety systems groups to ensure rigorous work planning and control are in place.
- Stewardship of SSRL beamline and SPEAR3 accelerator complex MPS, PPS, and BCS, including planning and implementing upgrades to be the least invasive to 24/7 operations.
- Communicate with people from all other disciplines, including physicists, scientists, duty operators, electrical and mechanical engineers, electronic and network technicians.
- Hold and participate in safety systems reviews and respond for occasional 24/7 support for subsystems assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Computer Engineering, and minimum 4 years of relevant experience in related field.
- Considerable experience in safety systems engineering design, development, and troubleshooting, as well as SCADA, DCS & PLC system design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proactivity in creating and maintaining documentation related to projects, software, user guides, how-tos, among others.
- Lead and direct multiple complex projects requiring high levels of functional integration.
- Technical skills, experience, and knowledge necessary to manage staff, including demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Linux, Python, EPICS, and knowledge of VHDL/Verilog in the embedded systems space.
- PLC interface and control software for Power Supplies, RF, Beam Position Monitors and other beam diagnostics, Digitizers, Motion Control, Thermocouples, Radiation Monitors, vacuum instrumentation.

The expected pay range for this position is $140,000 to $207,000 per annum.
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
