Electronics Engineer for Advanced Instrumentation Systems

The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a talented Electronics Engineer to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art electronics systems used in various experiments and facilities. The RF and Analog Systems department of the Technology Innovation directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is responsible for developing cutting-edge RF and analog electronics for accelerators and detectors.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that designs, develops, and tests advanced instrumentation systems, including RF and analog electronics, for various applications. The work will involve science, engineering concept development, and hands-on work with detectors. The team provides end-to-end electrical support for the laboratory and external sponsors, encompassing unique science and engineering challenges.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronics, physics, or a related field, with experience in RF signal processing, circuit board design, and software development. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of scientific and engineering staff and contribute to designing hardware in advanced electronics systems.
The specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Architecting and implementing low-noise front ends for LLRF, Master reference sources, Beam Position Monitors, Solid-State Amplifier, and particle detectors.
- Specifying and designing circuit boards, both low-noise analog and high-speed digital, to support instrumentation systems.
- Participating in the team designing the concept, architecture, and components of future advanced instrumentation systems.
- Performing characterization, calibration, and integration of state-of-the-art electronics systems.
- Supporting readout electronics and data acquisition systems.
- Collaborating with other instrumentation development groups at SLAC and other scientific institutions.

The expected pay range for this position is $116,000 to $170,000 per annum. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
