Job Overview

Position: Ophthalmic Technician

Role Summary

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care within the ophthalmology field. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting both patients and medical professionals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conduct comprehensive patient interviews to gather detailed medical histories, including ocular and family backgrounds, current medications, allergies, and primary concerns, all documented in the electronic medical record.

· Measure visual acuity with precision.

· Administer eye drops accurately.

· Neutralize eyeglasses using either manual or automated lensometers.

· Perform color vision assessments.

· Execute Amsler grid tests.

· Conduct Visual Field tests, both automated and confrontation methods.

· Carry out Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) procedures, including all relevant aspects such as Macular and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer assessments.

· Perform Fundus Photography, Fluorescein Angiography, and Indocyanine Green Angiography.

· Assess pupils for PERRLA and Afferent Pupillary Defect.

· Utilize a Tono Pen for Tonometry assessments.

· Assist in various in-office procedures, including Intravitreal injections, laser treatments, cryotherapy, and pneumatic procedures.

· Process prescriptions for pharmacies.

· Coordinate surgical scheduling.

· Explain procedures to patients and ensure informed consent is obtained.

· Document patient interactions and procedures with various physicians.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked examination environment.

· Adhere to office policies and procedures diligently.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum of 1 year of experience as an ophthalmic technician.

· Strong understanding of ophthalmology and relevant medical terminology.

· Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA compliance standards.

· Willingness to travel between office locations as required.

· Excellent clinical skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, physicians, and support staff.

· Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet patient commitments and deadlines.
