Role Overview

The Investment and Financial Planning Consultant is dedicated to providing tailored advisory and planning services to our members. This role encompasses various financial domains including insurance, investment strategies, trust management, estate organization, and retirement preparation. The goal is to assist members in recognizing their financial aspirations and securing the necessary products and services to achieve these objectives, while ensuring ongoing support to adapt their plans over time.

Position Levels

Investment Consultant – Primarily focuses on guiding members through the understanding, acquisition, and management of their investment portfolios, life insurance, and annuity products.

Investment Consultant I – In addition to product facilitation, this role involves a more proactive advisory approach, aiding members in aligning their investments and financial products with their overall financial strategy.

Senior Investment Consultant – Beyond product delivery and advisory duties, this position offers comprehensive planning services, assisting members in navigating different life stages and ensuring their financial plans remain aligned with evolving needs. This role also includes support for the District Manager in supervisory and training responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist members in acquiring and managing financial products and accounts to meet their financial objectives.
  • Collaborate with other specialists to address complex financial scenarios and ensure a holistic approach to member needs.
  • Effectively manage referrals to connect members with qualified financial advisory personnel.
  • Maintain regular communication with the District Manager regarding activities and outcomes in the designated area.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications by Role

Investment Consultant

  • Must possess one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree
    • CCUE Certification
    • Associate degree through the North Carolina College Transfer Program (NC-CTP)
    • Current investment licensing (preferably Series 6 or 7)
  • If unlicensed or partially licensed, must complete necessary licensure exams within 6 months of employment.
  • Preferred experience as a licensed Insurance, Investment, or Trust Representative.

Investment Consultant I

  • For applicants who are NOT CFP certificants:
  • Bachelor's degree OR CCUE Certification OR Associate degree via NC-CTP
  • Life insurance license
  • Investment licenses (SIE/Series 6/63/65 OR SIE/Series 7/66) OR Accredited Trust Fiduciary Advisory (ATFA) designation
  • 2+ years of experience as a licensed Insurance, Investment, or Trust Representative
  • For applicants who ARE CFP certificants:
  • 2+ years of experience as a licensed Insurance, Investment, or Trust Representative
  • If unlicensed or partially licensed, must complete necessary licensure exams within 6 months of employment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to provide informed recommendations and assist members in managing their financial products based on their evolving needs.
  • Preferred experience in a credit union setting.

Senior Investment Consultant

  • Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree OR CCUE Certification OR Associate degree via NC-CTP
    • Life insurance license
    • Investment licenses (SIE/Series 6/63/65 OR SIE/Series 7/66) OR Accredited Trust Fiduciary Advisory (ATFA) designation
  • 5+ years of experience as an investment or trust representative.
  • Highly skilled in providing advisory services.
  • Ability to assist members with comprehensive financial planning, integrating various financial planning aspects to help members identify goals and develop, maintain, and review their plans.
  • Preferred experience in a credit union environment.

  • Aptitude for building relationships and earning the trust of members and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to changing daily demands.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member information.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
  • Completion of training and educational modules as directed by management.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Collaborative and respectful interaction with members and colleagues.
  • Adherence to established work schedules and attendance policies.
  • Regional travel may be required; must possess a valid driver's license.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based, with interactions occurring in close proximity to other team members. The environment may include typical office sounds such as conversations, office equipment, and telephones. Some responsibilities may require off-site work.

Physical Requirements

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Work involves sitting (50%), walking (25%), and standing (25%).

Proficient use of hands and fingers for computer tasks.

Effective communication skills to address member inquiries.

Active listening skills to identify member needs.

May require climbing stairs in multi-level branches. Visual acuity is necessary for documentation tasks.

Ability to lift up to 5 pounds.
