Key Responsibilities:
The Surgical First Assistant will:
  • Position patients effectively to ensure optimal surgical exposure while prioritizing comfort and safety.
  • Execute physician orders to facilitate visualization of the surgical site, employing techniques such as tissue manipulation, retraction, and irrigation.
  • Maintain hemostasis using appropriate methods.
  • Assist in body plane closure and the application of dressings.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices into nursing care, addressing the specific needs of patients.
  • Uphold professional nursing standards and adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of an RNFA program compliant with AORN standards.
  • Baccalaureate degree is required for entry into RNFA practice.
  • Minimum of two years of registered nursing experience in an advanced surgical specialty.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support and as a Registered Nurse.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to:
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs frequently.
  • Utilize vision and hearing for patient assessment and safety.

Work Environment:
This position is primarily day shift, and the successful candidate will be part of a collaborative and supportive team environment at SSM Health.
