Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Health Nurse to join our team at the Georgia Department of Public Health. As a Public Health Nurse, you will play a critical role in promoting health and preventing disease in diverse communities statewide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care in accordance with established nurse protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Focus on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, and the promotion of health and maintenance of the health of populations.
  • Develop care plans based on nursing assessment and established protocols.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and refer patients to community partners or private physicians, when indicated.
  • Administer and dispense medications and vaccines based on nursing assessment and according to established nurse protocol.
  • Provide education to clients, families, and community partners.
  • Incorporate strategies for interacting with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Prepare to respond to public health emergencies and respond as directed.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university AND completion of a PHN course within one year of hire AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certification.
  • One year of nursing experience AND completion of a PHN course within one year of hire AND current Georgia Registered Nurse license AND CPR certification.
