Job Overview

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Software Project Manager to oversee operations within our Computer Information Department. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, with potential hybrid work arrangements. This role involves reporting directly to the Department Manager.

The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in information systems to conduct research, strategize, and effectively communicate within project teams. Responsibilities include:

  • Defining project scope, setting priorities, managing budgets, and establishing deadlines and deliverables.
  • Preparing comprehensive project execution plans and identifying necessary technical and business resources.
  • Providing technical leadership to project teams and ensuring adherence to project plans from initiation to completion.
  • Adjusting schedules or plans as needed and communicating impacts to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensuring project completion within budget while meeting all technical specifications.
  • Collaborating with software quality assurance (SQA) to develop and execute quality assurance testing plans.
  • Facilitating discussions and fostering consensus among project team members.
  • Recommending enhancements to improve information systems processes and reduce inaccuracies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage software and big data projects from inception through implementation and closure using project management methodologies.
  • Create detailed project schedules, budgets, and essential documentation, including Work Breakdown Structures and Risk Registers.
  • Oversee annual work planning for assigned programs.
  • Gather, manage, and document both business and technical requirements.
  • Enhance processes and best practices to ensure quality project delivery.
  • Clarify project scope and requirements in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Resolve conflicts related to customer requirements and project team performance.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to support specific projects and align with departmental goals.
  • Lead diverse teams on IT system projects that support organizational strategy.
  • Assume multiple project roles as needed, including Business Analyst and Project Controls.
  • Utilize various business analysis methods to understand project objectives.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customers and partners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to junior staff members.
  • Effectively manage project staff to ensure the delivery of cost-effective technical services.
  • Support the professional development of team members in their respective roles.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Business Management, or a related field, or a post-baccalaureate certification from an accredited institution.
  • Experience requirements vary based on educational background, with a minimum of 5 to 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in software and big data environments is essential.
  • Experience as a Business Analyst is required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is mandatory for higher levels.
