Phlebotomist - Physician Practice - Float Pool

At Hackensack Meridian Health, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and creating a positive work environment for our team members. As a Phlebotomist in our Physician Practice Float Pool, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.
The Phlebotomist is responsible for the proper collection of all specimen types on patients of all ages and in all states of health using proven techniques and appropriate collection devices to ensure safe and adequate collection.
Responsibilities include:
- Collecting intravenous and/or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
- Draws intravenous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the specimen is to be tested.
- Performing blood drawing procedures.
- Demonstrating high success rate (95%) on first venipuncture, and performing no more than two venipunctures per patient.
- Maintaining work area with proper level of supplies.
- Logging refrigerator temperature daily, and informing section head if temperatures fall outside of optimal range.
- Keeping a log on all patient activity and sending daily to Outreach Section Head.
- Obtaining all necessary information required for a patient test to be performed and billed properly.
- Traveling and performing phlebotomy duties at off-site locations for corporate and municipal health fairs, and delivering specimens to the laboratory as needed.

- Identifying the needs of the patient population served and modifying and delivering care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
- Communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
- Adhering to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications include:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Proven phlebotomy skills with patients of all ages.
- Computer literacy.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification registered or eligible.
