Position Overview

We are in search of a committed and proficient paraprofessional to serve as an Educational Support Specialist. The selected candidate will play a vital role in facilitating student learning, providing supervision, and supporting teachers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an educational or camp environment, or
  • An Associate Degree with at least 1 year of experience in an educational setting preferred, or
  • A Bachelor's degree in a field related to education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support classroom routines and assist the teacher consistently.
  • Implement the discipline plan as directed by the teacher and grade level.
  • Create an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Engage with groups of students during center activities.
  • Provide individualized assistance to students as directed.
  • Report observations and concerns regarding students to the teacher.
  • Direct parents and their inquiries to the teacher.
  • Oversee play yard supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Monitor students during recess, lunch, and after school, or as requested by the teacher.
  • Maintain a strong, confident presence with clear communication skills.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.

Organizational Duties:

  • Assist with photocopying, preparing, and collating materials.
  • Support the teacher with grading tasks as needed.
  • Set up work centers and assist in decorating the classroom, including bulletin boards.

Physical Demands:

The role requires active supervision to ensure student safety and adherence to rules and procedures. The Educational Support Specialist will spend the majority of the day standing or walking around the campus, which may involve kneeling, lifting, and bending. Continuous visual and auditory engagement is necessary, along with frequent verbal communication. Occasionally, quick movements may be required across various surfaces, including playgrounds and grassy areas. The work environment may vary from loud settings, such as cafeterias and playgrounds, to quieter classrooms. Adaptability to different weather conditions for outdoor activities is essential, as is the ability to work in air-conditioned and heated environments under fluorescent lighting.
