Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at Medstar. The successful candidate will assist the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients, while performing advanced level technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients.
  • Perform designated advanced level technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.
  • Under the supervision of the licensed Pharmacist, prepare oral, topical, and specific parenteral medications for dispensing to patients.
  • Enter physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles and charges.
  • Assist patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy related needs.
  • Monitor stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenish medications as needed.
  • Conduct monthly/periodic inspections of patient care/department areas.
  • Fills and replaces medications in the automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing unit(s).
  • Prepare mini bags, large volume parenterals, mini bag plus, etc. using aseptic techniques, including STATS.
  • Deliver and retrieve medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.
  • Compound products in bulk, or per individual order, and prepare private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging, when not otherwise available.
  • Complete and maintain controlled substance inventory log/records.
  • Participate in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians to department operations and the computer system.
  • Maintain clean and orderly workstations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training.
  • Eighteen months of hospital experience required.
  • A diploma from an approved pharmacy technician training program may be an acceptable alternative for six months of experience.
  • DC DOH - Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
  • PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or equivalent national certification within 180 Days required.
Compensation

This position has a hiring range of $31.852.
