About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Architect to join our team in the Bureau of Facilities Planning and Administrative Services. As a key member of our Office of Facilities Planning and Space Management, you will play a critical role in managing and utilizing our space effectively, as well as designing and implementing new and renovated spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and conduct space surveys to identify opportunities for space optimization
  • Analyze results to identify spaces that can accommodate additional staff through redesign, consolidation, space reallocation, or relinquishment
  • Participate in the development of designs, including floor plans and elevations, contract and working drawings, and contract specifications
  • Review or examine plans for compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, resolutions, statutes, rules, or regulations
  • Plan, design, and review the work of consultants and/or subordinates; prepare progress reports, and represent the agency in relations with City agencies and departments, contractors, and the general public
  • Draft scopes of work and space studies to propose projects directed to realizing office space maximum utilization
  • Review and recommend for approval payments and requisitions submitted by Contractors
  • Investigate appeals of contractors on rejection of equipment, materials, or workmanship
Requirements
  • A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
  • A valid New York State Registration as an Architect
