Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager, Technical Accounting to join our team at Granite Construction Incorporated. This role will be responsible for providing technical accounting guidance and support to our senior accounting and finance management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting standards, providing guidance on their implementation and impact.
  • Research and analyze complex accounting and financial reporting issues, documenting findings in detailed white papers.
  • Lead the accounting for business combinations, coordinating with valuation professionals and developing purchase price allocations.
  • Participate in integration activities for new acquisitions, including risk assessments and control scoping.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide technical guidance on complex matters concerning US GAAP requirements.
  • Conduct training sessions for the finance team on new accounting standards and complex accounting issues.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations for complex transactions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • CPA required.
  • Master's degree in accounting or related field or an MBA is a plus.
  • 8+ years' experience in public accounting or a combination of public accounting and corporate accounting required.
  • 4+ years management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience with SEC reporting requirements and researching SEC reporting and technical issues.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing staff and teams.
  • Prior experience working collaboratively with various department and groups.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and SEC reporting.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills and working knowledge of large ERP software.
  • Ability to research and analyze new accounting standards/pronouncements issued by the SEC and FASB.
  • Strong consultative and communication skills and ability to interface effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to properly manage and prioritize resources, people and projects and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to provide creative solutions to real-time challenges.
