About the Center:

The Rapid Prototyping Research Center (RPRC) is dedicated to providing innovative solutions for its Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors, focusing on rapid prototyping aligned with the National Defense Authorization Act. The RPRC emphasizes the integration of cutting-edge technology into existing systems, significantly reducing acquisition costs and expediting the deployment of solutions to critical challenges.

About the Position:

The Cloud Infrastructure Network Specialist will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-centric network architectures. This role includes managing various networking technologies such as routing, switching, load balancing, and firewalling, alongside cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The specialist will also be tasked with creating comprehensive networking diagrams and configuring networks according to the standards set by the Department of Defense (DoD) and other governmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Spearhead the design and deployment of network solutions, encompassing LAN, WAN, VPN, and additional networking technologies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish technical requirements, develop network architectures, and identify potential risks along with mitigation strategies. Produce detailed network design documentation, including diagrams, technical specifications, and testing protocols. Oversee the implementation and rollout of network architectures, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members on network architecture implementation, including configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. Engage in solution reviews, testing, and debugging to confirm that solutions meet established quality standards. Ensure that all team members, including employees, students, and contractors, deliver high-quality network solutions that fulfill client needs and maintain regular communication with stakeholders. Continuously assess and enhance RPRC's processes and tools, leading the adoption of new networking technologies and methodologies. Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within RPRC through leadership and mentorship.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Proven experience as a Network Engineer or Network Architect, with a focus on designing and implementing network solutions (typically 5+ years); Proficiency in networking technologies such as LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewalls; Familiarity with network security technologies, including IPSec, SSL, and firewall configurations; Expertise in routing, switching, load balancing, and firewalling technologies; Experience with cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP); Ability to provide detailed networking diagrams and configure networks according to DoD standards; Strong understanding of network architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices; Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment; Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying and mitigating technical risks; A history of delivering high-quality network solutions on time and meeting customer requirements; Capacity to work collaboratively with team members to ensure network reliability, scalability, and security; and Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field; Experience with Agile software development methodologies; Background in leading and mentoring engineering teams, providing technical guidance and support to team members; and Experience troubleshooting issues related to cloud-based network infrastructure and familiarity with network automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
