POSITION SUMMARY

The Central Sterile Supply Technician is responsible for the meticulous handling, disassembly, and examination of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments to ensure their safety and functionality. This role is crucial in preparing and sterilizing medical equipment for use in various healthcare settings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the receipt and disposal of regulated medical waste, general waste, and soiled linens in compliance with health regulations.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards by consistently wearing personal protective equipment while operating in the decontamination area.
  • Assess and implement appropriate decontamination methods, including the removal of blood, tissue fragments, and other contaminants through various techniques such as wiping, soaking, and ultrasonic cleaning.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of all items post-decontamination to verify the removal of contaminants and the proper functioning of instruments.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and identification of all medical devices and surgical instruments.
  • Assemble and prepare a comprehensive range of specialty trays and instrument sets, selecting suitable wrapping and sterilization methods according to established protocols.
  • Receive and verify sterilized trays and equipment, checking for the integrity of sterilization and proper storage in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance in all scheduled shifts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a central sterile supply training program or equivalent military training.
  • Current certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross, maintained at all times.
  • Compliance with health screening and immunization requirements as mandated by the facility.
  • Successful completion of any necessary security clearances and background checks.
  • Fulfillment of all credentialing requirements as outlined by the hiring organization.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time position, with potential for additional hours as required to meet operational needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is primarily conducted indoors within a military treatment facility, which may include clinics or hospitals. The environment is typically air-conditioned, though conditions may vary. Employees may encounter fast-paced situations requiring quick decision-making and adaptability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
