Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Manage the Legal Team: Oversee and mentor the legal team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Advice: Advise on compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), and other applicable laws.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Oversee and manage all aspects of litigation, including private attorney arbitrations, lawsuits, and regulator enforcement actions.
  • Business and Legal Risk Management: Identify and assess business and legal risks, and collaborate with the teams to find creative ways to mitigate them while achieving business goals.
  • Legal Compliance and Governance: Handle all aspects of legal compliance with applicable laws and regulations, interpret existing and new laws and regulations, and provide guidance to business teams.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with business and technology teams to implement legal/regulatory changes, and maintain a working knowledge of all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
  • Experience: 10 or more years of relevant experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm.
  • Skills and Qualifications: Experience dealing with regulatory bodies, regulatory exams, internal and third-party audits; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity; ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks; outstanding communication skills and ability to work both in teams and independently.
