Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO. As a key member of our Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program, you will play a critical role in integrating the Missile Defense System.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will develop use cases and prepare systems engineering artifacts, including the definition of Epics and Features, under the direction of the Engineering Support ART. You will be actively involved in Agile development, including iteration planning, status, and agile team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development, architectural documentation, system engineering estimates, and author and perform formal and informal engineering reviews.
  • Provide use case development support to junior systems engineering team members to enhance use case skills in the department.
  • Ability to be flexible and support various tasks on short notice.
  • Work will be performed under the direction of the ART and various product owners and require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated contributions to implementation that include the ability to analyze high-level needs and define a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product.
  • Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Experience in writing and implementing engineering plans within a project.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience.
  • Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Must have Relevant Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions that include a background in all systems development life cycle aspects.
  • Must have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc.).
  • Adhering to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Top Secret clearance is highly desired.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment, Domain experience with Space and Missile Defense.
  • Experience with Systems Analysis, Metric Development, MBSE, and Architecture development.
