The position emphasizes the importance of safe work practices, quality assurance, and maintaining accurate work records.

Key Responsibilities:
The Deputy City Engineer serves as a division manager within the Engineering Department, holding full accountability for organizing and directing the activities of division personnel. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading complex design and construction initiatives for capital improvement projects.
  • Reviewing private development projects to ensure compliance with design standards and accuracy.
  • Conducting advanced professional engineering assignments that require extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles, including land development, planning, design standards, and regulations.

This position is distinguished from the Senior Civil Engineer classification by its supervisory duties.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • A valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California.
  • A valid class C California driver's license or the ability to obtain one.

Only candidates who meet the qualifications by the application deadline will be considered for the examination process. The examination may include:

  • Application Package Review: Qualifying Only.
  • Oral Interview: 100% Weight Value. A minimum score of 70% is required to be placed on the eligibility list.

Special accommodations for the examination process can be arranged through the Human Resources Department prior to the scheduled examination.

Veteran's Preference:
Applicants may qualify for Veteran's Preference Points and should include relevant documentation with their application.
