Job Title: Food & Nutrition Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Food & Nutrition Specialist to join our team at Crestmoor Care Center. As a key member of our food services team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality dining experiences for our residents.

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in all food functions, ensuring that meals are prepared and served in accordance with established standards and regulations. You will work closely with our Food and Nutrition Services Manager to maintain a clean and sanitary dining hall, and assist in food preparation, serving, and cleaning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing meals that meet established portion control procedures.
  • Set up and deliver meal trays, food carts, and other equipment to designated areas.
  • Check diet trays before distribution and serve food in the dining room as instructed.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and floors, and perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures.
  • Remove food trays from carts, dining rooms, and other areas.
  • Distribute and collect menus as necessary, and prepare and deliver snacks as instructed.
  • Carry out garbage and keep work areas clean, dry, and free of hazardous equipment.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
  • Adhere to dress and jewelry requirements per health code regulations.
  • Assist with daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in facility mandatory in-service training programs as scheduled.
  • Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
Requirements:
  • Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
  • On-the-job training provided.
Work Environment:

This position requires working in well-lighted and ventilated areas, with a warm and noisy atmosphere for cooking. You will be required to move intermittently during working hours, and be subject to frequent interruptions. You will also be involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, and other individuals under all conditions and circumstances.

You will be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, and others. You will communicate with medical staff, nursing staff, and other department supervisors, and work beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

You will be subject to call back during emergency conditions, such as severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, and other situations. You will attend and participate in continuing educational programs, and be subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, and other hazards throughout the workday.

You will be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. You will maintain a liaison with other department directors to adequately plan for food services and activities, and may be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination.
  • Must be able to taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
