Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Nutrition Services Assistant to join our team at Mapleton Public Schools. As an On-Call Nutrition Services Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our food service program by preparing meals, serving students and staff, and maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare food according to planned menus and recipes, using approved school guidelines and safe food handling procedures.
  • Serve food to students, teachers, staff, and community members in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Clean and maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Foster a positive team environment by assisting co-workers with scheduled work demands and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Label and prepare food for storage, ensuring accurate labeling and proper storage procedures.
  • Maintain and care for kitchen equipment, performing routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Communicate and interact positively with students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members, providing excellent customer service and support.
  • Operate cash register, computer, and/or utilize roster system, accurately processing transactions and maintaining accurate records.
  • May fill in for absent manager as needed, demonstrating leadership and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No experience required, but experience with food service and/or school nutrition programs preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting of heavier objects.
Working Conditions

The Nutrition Services Assistant will work in a kitchen environment, exposed to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock. The employee will also be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
