Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for collecting and preparing specimens, as well as conducting laboratory procedures essential for diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases. This role includes verifying, recording, and reporting lab results accurately and promptly for all tests performed, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and laboratory protocols.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Demonstrating extensive knowledge of human physiology and the impact of diseases relevant to testing in your designated area.
  • Adhering to laboratory protocols for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.
  • Performing only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director, based on your education, training, and technical skills.
  • Conducting various laboratory tests on specimens, evaluating results against established criteria, and accurately reporting and verifying test results in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Identifying and addressing issues that may affect test performance or result reporting, and notifying the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Documenting all corrective actions taken when laboratory performance deviates from established specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a chemical, physical, biological, or other life science, along with relevant clinical laboratory experience within the last five years.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in laboratory medical technology with clinical rotation.
  • National Registration as an MLS(ASCP)cm, MT(ASCP), or equivalent, or registry-eligible at the time of hire.
  • If not held at the time of hire, national certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, patients, and vendors.
