Job Summary

The Medical Technologist is a key member of the laboratory team, responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests in microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation, and urinalysis. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and special test procedures, including hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, serology, and immunology.
  • Set up, read, and report results of cultures in bacteriology.
  • Make and read smears.
  • Perform prescribed quality control procedures and record results in proper record books.
  • Teach laboratory procedures to new laboratory personnel.
  • Inventory and request supplies and reagents as needed.
  • Prepare reagents as needed.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area.
  • Assist physicians in any manner possible.
  • Report test results to authorized personnel.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
  • Three years of college plus one year of medical technology training, or a Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences plus one year of clinical laboratory work experience.
  • Medical Technologist/Med Lab Scientist certification through ASCP preferred.

  • Ability to recognize and identify the causes of problems and present solutions.
  • Ability to perform complex analyses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people.
Work Environment

The Medical Technologist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, rotating between sections due to variations in workload, staffing, and orientation programs. The role requires flexibility and adaptability, as well as the ability to work under stress.
