LPN Float Position

The LPN Float position at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South involves providing patient care in support of cardiovascular physicians and other medical personnel. This role requires the ability to travel to other CIS clinics to provide coverage in the event of staffing shortages.
Key Responsibilities- Triage patients and assess emergency cases, obtaining and documenting medication lists, allergies, vital signs, patient complaints, and histories in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate concerns and problems regarding patients to physicians/providers.
- Assist coding and risk management efforts by providing accurate and complete documentation.
- Remain available for physicians/providers as much as possible and assist with patient rooms as needed.
- Review and complete physician/provider orders, administer injections, provide samples, schedule tests, and maintain CDS protocols.
- Create and maintain accurate and complete electronic documentation, including patient medication lists, allergies, chart notes, and detailed documentation of phone calls in the EMR.
- Enter electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times.
- Respond to phone calls from pharmacies, patients, physician offices, home health agencies, and other external parties.
- Perform blood work and assist with duties associated with Coumadin clinics/patients as needed.
- Explain diagnostic procedures to patients, provide patient and family education, and interrogate pacemakers and defibrillators.
- Assist with filling out forms, reviewing staff alert cards/insurance flags, and performing insurance pre-certifications prior to testing.
- Assist with mandated clinic checks, including pro-thrombin time checks, temperature checks, defibrillator machine checks, crash cart checks, OSHA clean and stock rooms, and drug closet checks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and serve in whatever capacity deemed necessary for the successful completion of the mission and goals of CIS.

- Communicate any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to team leaders.
- Perform all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.
- Meet all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.
- Represent CIS in a professional manner at all times.
- Demonstrate acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff, and external customers on a professional level.
- Exhibit good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers.
- Exhibit a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position.
