Job Summary

The College of Lake County is seeking a highly skilled Educational Support Professional to join their team of educational support professionals. As an Instructional Assistant, you will provide administrative and supervisory support for the Explore Youth Academic Enrichment Program, Engage STEM Career Exploration Program, and the Fast-Paced Program for Gifted Youth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and supervisory support for the Explore Youth Academic Enrichment Program, Engage STEM Career Exploration Program, and the Fast-Paced Program for Gifted Youth.
  • Assist in preparation of curriculum materials and class supplies.
  • Set up, take down, and organize sign-in/sign-out area, including sign placement, tables, chairs, equipment, parent/student information, sign-in/sign-out materials, promotional and procedural documents, and instructor materials and supplies.
  • Serve as lead in coordinating sign-in/sign-out process.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and leadership to student workers.
  • Supervise parent/adult sign-in and sign-out of students.
  • Provide program information to Explore, Engage, and Fast-Paced families.
  • Provide classroom assistance and student supervision as needed.
  • Organize, secure, and process program-related documents in accordance with class and camp procedures.
  • Provide administrative support, as needed, including data entry, filing, computer work, emailing, and managing gifted program student lists.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with class and camp program coordinator regarding issues, questions, and program needs throughout each class or camp day.
  • Coordinate inter-campus communication and program supplies with other instructional assistants and student workers.
  • Provide daily/nightly program updates via email to Personal Enrichment office.
  • Troubleshoot problems with some independence.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all information and documents in accordance with program procedures.
  • Periodically represent programs at community events.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree or higher or equivalent relevant coursework.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with parents and students in an educational setting.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching children.
  • Excellent two-way communication and relationship skills.
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and adhere to college and FERPA guidelines.
  • Demonstrate integrity in work, academic, and personal relationships.
  • Maturity and experience necessary to make responsible decisions to maintain student safety, healthy parent and student relationships, and program integrity in all matters.
  • Commitment to communicate program issues, questions, and needs to senior program coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Available to work flexible schedule.
  • Proficient in using educational technology (email, MS Office, internet, etc.).
  • Aptitude for and willingness to learn department software (ACCESS, Destiny, PeopleSoft Class Climate, etc.).
  • Willingness to become expert in program details, policies, and procedures so as to be able to teach others.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
