As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Patient Care Technician plays a crucial role in monitoring patient conditions and assisting with essential daily activities. This position involves close collaboration with nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring: Vigilantly observes various patient monitors, promptly alerting nursing staff to any significant changes in heart rate, rhythm, or oxygen levels.
  • Diagnostic Support: Conducts selected diagnostic tests and implements prescribed treatments under the supervision of registered nurses.
  • Patient Assistance: Aids patients in their daily living activities, ensuring comfort and support.
  • Health Assessment: Assists in the physical and psychological evaluation of patients by measuring vital signs and documenting changes in their condition.
  • Specimen Collection: Collects necessary specimens, such as urine and blood, while adhering to established protocols.
  • Emergency Response: Responds to patient calls and emergency situations, ensuring a safe environment for all.
  • Team Collaboration: Works effectively within the healthcare team, communicating observations and findings to nursing staff regularly.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two years of direct patient care experience is essential.
  • Completion of a Basic ECG/EKG Interpretation course is preferred.
  • Successful completion of relevant training programs is necessary.
  • Proficiency in operating cardiac monitors and EKG machines is required.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to follow instructions are essential.
  • Heart Saver Certification is preferred.
