Job Summary

The State of Minnesota is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Climate Assistance Unit as a Climate Assistance Unit Supervisor. This role will oversee the development and implementation of climate-related programs and policies, provide technical assistance to stakeholders, and collaborate with external partners to advance climate action in Minnesota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the activities and resources of the Climate Assistance Unit
  • Develop and implement climate-related programs and policies
  • Provide technical assistance to stakeholders on climate-related issues
  • Collaborate with external partners to advance climate action in Minnesota
  • Direct the development of employees and ensure delivery of high-quality work products
Requirements
  • One year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control
  • Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control
  • Three years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing, and developing criteria for permits, enforcement, negotiation, or environmental programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working understanding of state, local, and federal climate change policy
  • Knowledge of research and science related to greenhouse gas inventories, climate pollution mitigation, and/or climate adaptation and resilience
  • Strong communications skills, including listening and effective verbal and written communication
  • Leadership skills sufficient to effectively supervise, coach, train, motivate, and lead staff and teams through complex challenges in a dynamic regulatory and policy context
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to guide and direct multiple complex projects at the same time
Additional Requirements
  • Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment
  • Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position
