Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at High Desert State Prison. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs for patients, including individual and group recreation therapy sessions.
  • Monitor and document treatment progress, and work with other healthcare providers to share recreational therapy assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans.
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of patients to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to graduation from a recognized college with major work in recreation or recreation therapy, including supervised field work.
  • Registration as a senior will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent and completion of the required field work before they will be considered eligible for appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
