SUMMARY:
Execute the responsibilities assigned by the registered nurse as appropriate. Provide assistance as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understand and adhere to the Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Support the registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and physician in delivering care for patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders; act as an advocate in coordinating patient care.

Provide direct nursing care to patients using the nursing process in both in-person and telephonic interactions.
Exhibit proficiency in understanding and interpreting diagnostic measures such as laboratory tests, imaging studies, blood glucose readings, etc.
Assist in the coordination and facilitation of patient care, including hospitalizations, outpatient visits, procedures, tests, and treatments. Collaborate with the endocrine care team to complete prior authorization for various endocrine tests and treatments.

Perform specialized technical skills related to diabetes and endocrine care, including meter and pump downloads, stimulation and suppression testing, injections, etc.

Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and supplies to meet patient needs.
Assist healthcare providers with procedures.
Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures. Utilize appropriate monitoring equipment.
Administer medications as directed by the physician under the guidelines of the state nursing board.
Provide education to patients.
Document all required information accurately and timely.
Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources efficiently to manage costs without compromising care quality.
Implement infection control measures and ensure environmental safety.
Exhibit safety practices through room preparation and high-level disinfection protocols.
Accurately report and document information in a timely manner.
Maintain a positive and caring demeanor towards patients, physicians, staff, and all other contacts.
Seek guidance and assistance when necessary. Adhere to policies and procedures and actively participate in quality improvement programs.
Safeguard the confidentiality and privacy of all patients and communications/documents.
Familiarize oneself with all equipment and supplies, especially emergency medications and equipment.
Engage in staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Demonstrate adaptability in patient care, assignments, schedules, and the needs of the organization.
Supervise less qualified personnel and delegate tasks according to their qualifications, skills, education, and competency.
Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Participate in ongoing education programs.
Contribute to committees as assigned.
Perform additional duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Ability to maintain open and constructive communication with other healthcare professionals, patients, and families.
Exhibit professionalism at all times.
Comply with HIPAA regulations to protect patient and personnel information confidentiality.
Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Robust clinical skills specific to endocrinology.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; LPN.
State Licensure as an LPN with prior experience in endocrinology/diabetes preferred.
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Evidence of ongoing education.
