About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Geriatric Care Nurse to join our team at ChenMed in Richmond, VA.

Job Summary:

The Senior Geriatric Care Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to seniors in a primary care setting. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, empathy, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Discuss and record patients' medical history, vital statistics, and test results in the medical record.
  • Prepare patients for examination, perform routine screening tests, and assist physicians with exams.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diet, and physicians' instructions to patients and provide disease-specific patient education.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect lab specimens, and conduct waived lab tests.
  • Administer medications as ordered by physicians, fill pill boxes, change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform IV therapy.
  • Screens calls and walk-ins, collects pertinent clinical information, and relays it to physicians.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks, and sterilizes instruments while adhering to OSHA safety standards.
  • Accurately documents observations and interventions in the medical record.
  • Processes patient phone messages, returns calls, and routes them to other team members as needed.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or similar role in a hospital, medical clinic, or comparable environment.
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare vocational training is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross is required within the first 90 days of employment.
