Position Summary:
This role involves traveling to various educational institutions in the Greater Philadelphia area, with travel requirements reaching up to 60%. As an advocate for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH), the Mobile Educator will play a crucial role in fostering their independence as learners. The educator will provide tailored support to D/HH students and work collaboratively with administrators, support personnel, and families to identify and implement effective educational strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the educational requirements of D/HH learners, collecting data to assess needs, track progress, and inform instructional methods and interventions.
- Assist with the operation of amplification devices, including hearing aids, FM systems, and cochlear implants.
- Contribute to essential documentation such as Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Present Levels of Functional Performance, and Annual Reviews.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to special education.
- Collaborate with audiologists regarding students' hearing conditions and the use of hearing aids and FM systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education.
- Valid Pennsylvania Hearing Impaired PK-12 teacher license.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language.
- Understanding of best practices in Early Childhood Education.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Teacher of the Deaf.
- Willingness to travel to various educational sites within the Philadelphia region.
