Special Education Teacher for Visually Impaired Students

Teach students with visual impairments using curriculum and instructional methods that enhance their ability to function independently.
Assess visually impaired students to determine eligibility for services.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop a comprehensive educational program for students, including remedial and affective education, and related instructional strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Plan classroom lessons and activities tailored to the skill level of students.
- Use techniques and materials to enhance students' academic abilities.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary team process, conducting formal and informal assessments, and making recommendations for teachers and students for accommodations.
- Facilitate inquiry-based learning within small group and/or individual instruction, driven by student needs.
- Travel within the school district to provide itinerant services to students.
- Identify students' needs and strengths, determining the amount and frequency of service necessary to meet students' determined needs.
- Provide instruction in vision techniques and the use of vision-related materials and devices.
- Teach travel skills in both indoor and outdoor environments, including the use of mass transit systems.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that set individualized goals and objectives for each student.
- Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to develop and implement strategies for students receiving vision services.
- Provide consultation and support to parents, teachers, and other school staff.
- Evaluate students' progress on an ongoing basis and keep progress notes on each student receiving vision services.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred two (2) years of full-time, paid, professional experience working with students with blindness/visual impairment and multiple disabilities, and writing IEP goals.
Preferred experience working in a public school setting with urban youth.
Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate to teach the Visually Impaired.
